Cost of dog insurance: Common illness claims revealed

Posted by Albert. June 27th 2016.

The cost of insuring a dog will vary widely depending on a wide number of factors.

Where you live, the age of your pet and the type of cover you want are some of the variables.

The breed of your dog will also be a factor, largely because the vet bill for procedures varies between types of dog.

For example, to treat a patella luxation – more popularly known as a knee injury – in a Bichon Frise costs an average of £213. The same treatment for a Pomeranian costs an average of £2,736 – more than ten times as much.

Here’s a look at some of the most popular dog breeds in the UK with some facts and figures relating to their health and common illnesses, including how much insurers pay out to treat them.
