What does our Cat Insurance include?

At Argos Pet Insurance, we know that your cat can develop a health condition or get ill at any time. That’s why we provide cat insurance policies that could cover your vet bills for various treatments, along with other benefits too. Our cat insurance policies could cover:

  • Veterinary fees including dental cover, complementary treatment and physiotherapy
  • Behavioural illnesses
  • Overseas veterinary treatment
  • Advertisement and reward if your cat or kitten goes missing
  • Theft or straying
  • Emergency boarding cattery fees
  • Emergency expenses abroad
  • Other travel cover, such as holiday cancellation, quarantine costs or loss of healthcare certificate

If your cat was to sadly pass away from an accident or injury, we can also cover some of the costs, including cremation if you choose.

Please note that we won’t cover any pre-existing conditions and that terms, conditions, excesses, exclusions and limitations apply. You can find out more about the terms of our cover in our policy documents.

Lifetime Policy

Whether you have adopted a kitten, or you have a life-long feline friend in the family, you may be thinking about insurance. With our Lifetime policy, you could benefit from an annually renewed vet fee limit with no exclusions for new conditions.

This policy could cover your cat for veterinary fees, such as non routine dental work and physiotherapy, overseas veterinary treatment, and even payment for advertisement and rewards if your cat goes missing.

Time Limited Policy

Just like us, your cat could get into all sorts of mishaps at any time. If your cat was to develop an illness that they have never had before, this could mean that you will need to pay for treatment to get them back to feeling themselves. With a Time Limited policy, new conditions are covered for a 12-month period, or until the vet fee limit has been spent, whichever comes first.

Our Time Limited policy can cover new conditions, as well as helping you if your cat is stolen or goes missing. You can also benefit from veterinary fees cover and holiday travel cover.

Multi-pet Insurance

Do you have multiple cats in your family? Then you may be thinking about covering all of them with Cat Insurance. With our multi-pet discount, you can cover all of your cats and receive a minimum of £24 discount, made up of £1 per pet per month. If you’re lucky enough to have both dogs and cats in your household then there is no need to worry! You can insure multiple dogs and cats and still receive the discount.

Whether you have our Lifetime policy or Time Limited policy, get insurance for another cat or dog and receive a minimum of £24 discount, made up of £1 per pet every month they are insured. T&Cs apply.

What’s covered and what’s not

Under 8 weeks old…

You can start your Argos Pet Insurance policy from when your kitty is 8 weeks old, right up to their 10th birthday.

Once you’re signed up you can carry on with the insurance for the rest of your cat’s life.

While covered, you must take proper and reasonable care of your pet – and of course, keep on top of those recommended check-ups and vaccinations.

Pre-existing conditions

These refer to any condition or symptom, or anything related to it, that you were aware of or has been noted and/or investigated by a vet before the policy start date. If you do have medical history tell us and we’ll be honest with you on what we can and can’t cover your pet for.

Once your pet suffers from a medical condition it can become very difficult to get another insurer to offer cover for that condition. This means you could be stuck with an insurer to ensure that your pet’s pre-existing condition remains covered. So, it is important that you take the time to select your pet insurance company based not just on cost, but on other factors.

Illness that could be prevented

Whilst we will insure your cat without having had vaccines, if it catches an illness it could have been vaccinated against, we won’t cover your vet costs.

Dental cover

Your pet is not covered for routine dental work such as cleaning. However your pet will be covered for dental treatment if caused by an illness, provided there is evidence of having had dental check-ups as recommended by your vet and any advice received is followed up within 6 months.

Pets we can’t insure

We won’t insure any pet that is used for commercial breeding or monetary gain.

Treatment outside the EU

We won’t pay out claims for any incident outside the territorial limits of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Eire and the Member Countries of the Pet Travel Scheme (non-EU listed countries as defined by DEFRA are excluded).

Putting to sleep by government order

We will only cover putting your cat to sleep if it’s for humane reasons or to stop incurable suffering. We will not pay for this if it is by order from any government, local authority or anyone with jurisdiction in the matter.

Death from illness

If your cat is aged 10 or older, we wouldn’t pay out on a claim for death from illness.

Please note, this is not the full list of exclusions. Download our policy document for the full list.

Have more than one cat in the family?

If you’re lucky enough to own multiple cats, then you may be wondering if you can insure all of them. At Argos Pet Insurance, we know that when your cats are not in full health, it can make the whole family feel down in the dumps too. With our multi-pet discount, you could insure all of your feline friends and receive a minimum of £24 discount, made up of £1 per month per cat insurance policy. If you own a dog and would like to insure them too, you still qualify for the discount. T&Cs apply.

24/7 access to Argos Vet Assistance

When you cover your cat with Argos Pet Insurance, you receive 24/7 access to Argos Vet Assistance. Our veterinary nurses are available online or over the phone to help you with healthcare concerns or other queries anytime of day or night.

We know what it is like to worry about your cat’s health, so you can call our qualified veterinary nurses if you want to know if that vomiting is serious or if your kitten seems under the weather. You can also check out our Argos Pet Portal.

Top tips to get the best from us

Remember those jabs

Whilst we will insure your cat without having had vaccines, we won’t cover your vet costs for any treatment for an illness that is preventable by vaccination and you failed to vaccinate as recommended by your vet.

Call us before you offer a reward

If your cat goes missing or is stolen we can give you money for a reward up to the value defined in selected cover outlined in the benefits table above.

Keep your receipts

If you bought or made a donation for your cat, keep your receipt in case you need to claim back for the amount your paid. If you don’t have your receipt we may repay the current market value for the breed of your cat.

Think of us when you’re abroad!

If your pet needs veterinary treatment whilst temporarily abroad you must pay the vet whilst you’re there. When you return home, call us immediately and report the claim.

Admin fees

There may be some administration fees included in your vet’s bill, say for filling in a claim form, but we cannot reimburse you for these.
