Don’t scare your cat, it causes cat anxiety (VIDEO)

Cat videos are a mainstay of YouTube and the other online video platforms.

Recently, a montage of cats being scared by cucumbers went viral, being watched by tens of millions of people across the globe.

Whilst it might be viewed by some as entertaining, from a pet’s point of view, it’s not a good idea to scare your cat.

Cats are, by nature, nervous creatures and cat anxiety is no laughing matter.

There are several theories about why cats are scared of cucumbers – including that he or she might mistake them for a snake or other predator.

What most experts can agree on, though, is that it’s very stressful for a cat to be scared in this way.

Your cat could remain anxious for days after being scared.

In some of the clips, the cat is scared while eating, which is particularly cruel. As an owner, you want your cat to have a positive association with feeding, not a negative one.

And it’s not only cucumbers that can scare your cat – even toys designed for him or her might cause alarm.

If you are buying new toys for your cat, introduce them in a calm and gradual way in an environment your cat is comfortable in.
